Animal sacrifices for scientific research {250 words essay}

on Sat May 08, 2010 10:06 am
Animals tragedy
Poor little animals that die because of scientific researches! But animal testing and studies are caused by necessity. Every sacrifice has a gain. Imagine what would happen if we couldn’t study and text on them. How retarded would human be?

Animal has always been a very massif category in Biology. Scientists say that the only way to study them is to have contact with them. There is no other way to do it without capturing them. We need to keep them in laboratory, so we can observe their development.

Using animal for testing is also a choiceless tragedy. Yes, they die because of failed chemical substance. However, who else would test them? Human would never volunteer to let others to play with their life. And even if there is, the number would be too small to replace completely.

Researches and tests is the key to help us develop. If we don’t understand animal, how can we cope with them? If we don’t test on them, how can we now if chemical products have the right effect as we wanted? In our days, new virus and flues are discovered every year. We need the animals to test new vaccines and medications.

Poor self-centered creature as we, humans, are, always find a way to survive and develop by manipulating others. It’s a good thing that many organisations and groups try to stop animal violence. But the only way to stop it is to reach a point where studies can allow us to create virtual or artificial humans for testing.

At least, there's a gain. Because, human sometime are more cruel than just using lives for development.
We also kill for no reason, for fun.

In that case, it would be unforgettable.

If studies can allow us to create virtual or artificial humans for testing, we wouldn't need to test anymore. Every products can be approved with only theoretic informations.

Alternatives to animal testing
Spoiler:
Most scientists and governments say they agree that animal testing should cause as little suffering as possible, and that alternatives to animal testing need to be developed. The "three Rs", first described by Russell and Burch in 1959, are guiding principles for the use of animals in research in many countries:

1. Replacement refers to the preferred use of non-animal methods over animal methods whenever it is possible to achieve the same scientific aim.
2. Reduction refers to methods that enable researchers to obtain comparable levels of information from fewer animals, or to obtain more information from the same number of animals.
3. Refinement refers to methods that alleviate or minimize potential pain, suffering or distress, and enhance animal welfare for the animals still used.

Two major alternatives to in vivo animal testing are in vitro cell culture techniques and in silico computer simulation. However, some claim they are not true alternatives since simulations use data from prior animal experiments and cultured cells often require animal derived products, such as serum. Others say that they cannot replace animals completely as they are unlikely to ever provide enough information about the complex interactions of living systems. Other alternatives, not subject to this criticism, involve the use of humans for skin irritancy tests and donated human blood for pyrogenicity studies. Another alternative is so-called microdosing, in which the basic behaviour of drugs is assessed using human volunteers receiving doses well below those expected to produce whole-body effects.
